What is CBD?
CBD is the abbreviation for "cannabidiol," the second most abundant molecule produced within the cannabis plant. The most abundant molecule is THC, this is the chemical, which provides the feeling of being "high." Your body already has a built in system called endocannabinoid system, which regulates and performs various critical functions. When used, CBD binds to these receptors.
CBD will not get you "high." However, many studies have been conducted on CBD and found that this compound offers relief for individuals suffering from pain, anxiety and other syndromes.
One of the most common questions asked is whether CBD is safe. Patients are concerned about addition potential side effects. The National Institute for Drug Abuse states that "CBD appears to be a safe drug with no addictive effects." CBD can sometimes interact with certain prescriptions, primarily those that are "changed and broken down by the liver." As always we encourage patients to discuss CBD with their health care team in determining whether CBD should be part of your treatment plan.
CBD Dosing Considerations
Because CBD is so new, it is best to consult your health care provider to determine how well your body responds without giving it more than the necessary amount. SLPI offers CBD in a variety of delivery methods and can determine the appropriate dose for your unique medical condition.
