Don't Ignore These Neck Pain Symptoms
For many of us, neck pain occurs from time to time and usually self resolves without seeking medical attention. However, knowing when not to ignore symptoms is key. Here are some of the neck pain symptoms you should never ignore:
Neck pain associated with a recent car accident. Perhaps your symptoms came on gradually or did not present themselves right away. If you have been involved in an auto accident and experience neck pain you should see a provider right away.
Pain travels down one arm with your neck pain. If you have neck pain especially if your hand or arm is weak, numb or tingling you should see your provider right away. These symptoms can be associated with a herniated disc pressing into a nerve.
You experience neck pain and have loss of bladder or bowel control. This could indicate pressure on your spinal cord or spinal cord nerve roots.
Neck stiffness with fever. If you are experiencing neck pain, fever and/or headaches it is important to see your provider or visit the ER. This could be a sign of bacterial meningitis that requires prompt treatment and attention.
Neck pain with chest pain or discomfort. A heart attack can cause neck pain along with other types of symptoms. Call 911 right away.
Don't endure the pain and seek the guidance of your provider right away.
