Neck pain is a common complaint that can be the result of muscle strain, poor posture, or osteoarthritis. Although it’s rare, the pain can be a symptom of a more serious problem.
Common causes of neck pain may include:
- Abnormalities in the bone or joints
- Poor posture
- Degenerative diseases
- Muscle strain
Treatment of soft tissue pain in your neck often includes the use of anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen or naproxen. Pain also may be treated with a local application of moist heat or ice. Exercises may help. For cases in which nerve roots or the spinal cord are involved, surgical procedures may be necessary.
